The adoption of Artificial Intelligence within manufacturing Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises is advancing unevenly, with many organizations facing significant challenges. While numerous maturity models guide digital adoption, few address the specific dimensions of AI adoption. This study introduces the Manufacturing Ethical AI Maturity Model, a structured framework to assess the ethical maturity of companies adopting AI technologies and provide structured progression guidance for maturity improvement. The framework comprises six dimensions and five maturity levels, providing a domain-specific conceptual framework for assessing ethical readiness for AI adoption in manufacturing SMEs. The model was developed using a Design Science Research approach, informed by a systematic literature review, refined through a three-round Delphi study with nine experts, and preliminarily evaluated through SME self-assessment and Technology Acceptance Model (TAM)-based feedback. Rather than offering a fully operationalized implementation toolkit, the framework provides structured progression pathways intended to support gradual improvement of ethical AI readiness in Industry 4.0 and Industry 5.0 contexts.
