Counts differ because each database indexes a different set of publications. We treat OpenAlex as the canonical count; Google Scholar is not shown (no API, and crawling it violates its ToS).
The Trust Dial is a concept proposal for a user-facing control system that would allow people to set priorities for AI responses, including verification strictness, permission to make inferences, when clarification is required, evidence standards, response pace, and whether evidence should come before reassurance. The proposal addresses the risk that unsupported assumptions may be presented as facts during consequential tasks. It describes a Strict Verification Mode in which important claims would be labeled as verified, user-reported, inferred, or unknown. This document presents the concept and its potential applications; it does not claim that the system has been implemented or scientifically validated.
