A shared glossary for the open science suite

Counts differ because each database indexes a different set of publications. We treat OpenAlex as the canonical count; Google Scholar is not shown (no API, and crawling it violates its ToS).

This glossary fixes the terms shared by the three papers in the series: the machine’s PILOT, a topology of principles for open science, and a topology of the commons. The three papers use one vocabulary, and each paper is written to the definitions set down here. The glossary is deposited on its own and cited by each paper, so that the terms hold their meaning across the three and can be corrected in one place. The definitions are ordered alphabetically.This paper was prepared under the author’s direction with the assistance of several AI systems, including various models of Claude, ChatGPT, Microsoft 365 Copilot, and DeepSeek.
