An essay on how the AI industry selects the people who train and evaluate its models. Platforms that recruit AI trainers usually forbid them to use AI tools in their tasks, while the labs themselves bring AI assistants into their own evaluation work. The essay argues that such a rule checks compliance with a tool ban rather than fitness for the work, may drive away experienced AI users, and rewards concealment over disclosure. It proposes four conditions of participation: access to substantive work, fair pay for creative labour, freedom of judgment, and declared use of modern AI tools. Whether these conditions produce better models has not been measured; it is stated as a testable hypothesis. Written in support of the AI industry, by a daily AI user. Russian and English versions.
